Truck Drivers?
how much do truck drivers get paid? what are the dangers of being a truck driver? good things?
Anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 just depends on your experience level and desire to make it a career. If you stick with it and like it, you can probably make over $50,000 on your second year. Because you earn based on the miles driven. You can be more flexible than other jobs, plus the fact that you dont have a boss over your back checking up on everything you do, it allows you more freedom. The dangers are as follows: Snow Driving: Its an art and a science you gotta pay attention to whats happening to your vehicle or things can get outta hand fast. Traffic: Especially cars and RV's they are often unconsiderate to others and can be very dangerous to your health. Sleep deprivation: This one is of most importance, if you dont sleep long enough it will catch up with you and you dont want to pay by being in a head on collision or some other accident. Drive according to the law and you may live another day. Lastly Distractions: Paying attention to what your doing pays off big you make less mistakes when your not distracted, and it cuts down on accidents and tickets, things that will cost you bucks down the road. The good things are just as numerous as the bad: I mentioned that you can call your own shots with less flack, because you simply dont have the immediate surpervision of a boss over you. Thats big in my book, also the pay is way better than most occupations with such little education needed. This is good reason as well to get your cdl. If you are single as I was once upon a time, You dont even have to pay rent, you can buy a house with the money you save by living in the truck you drive, its likely if you go long distance driving you will be away from home 2-3 weeks at a time so an ocassonal motel is warranted. And last but not least is that the travel is free, at least economically, even though your on a schedule it is possible to get a day off in the middle of easier runs to check out the sites, especially on cross country runs. There are a lot more plusses as well as minuses beyond the answer I gave here but their are blogs all over the web to help you with more info. Good luck in your search. B:)
How can we help truck driversto drive legal hours ofservice an not get canned bythere employer?
Truck Drivers are now allowed to drive 11 hours before they must take a mandatory 10 hour sleeper berth. I know company's put pressure on drivers in different ways to get them to lie on there log books in order get more hour out of the driver. Thus getting the driver to drive unsafe putting lives at risk. "WHAT CAN WE DO".
Good question. When the Government decides to punish the shippers and receivers and not the driver. I drove for 16 years and never worked for an honest company. If they had to pay drivers for all the waiting time it would be different. When a driver has to wait 10 hours or more for a load without pay he has to drive to make a living. Many times the waiting time is his break so he's driving with no rest or sleep. If a driver drove legally he would be fired or starve to death.
How come speeding truckdrivers rearly get caught bythe police?
I see truck drivers speeding every time on the road when I drive. I also see them running through red traffic lights and overtaking other vehicles dangerously. Do they get away with it or not?
Do you mean rarely? What you see is not the majority. I was highway patrol and did Motor Carrier Safety - which is a unit specifically for enforcement of laws and regulations regarding to truck drivers intra and interstate. If you pose this question to a truck driver I am sure his or her opinion will differ greatly than yours.
