- Most of the university business schools are faculties, colleges or departments within the university, and teach predominantly business courses.
- In North America a business school is often understood to be a university graduate school which offers a Master of Business Administration or equivalent degree.
- Also in North America the term "business school" can refer to a different type of institution: a two-year school that grants the Associate's degree in various business subjects. Most of these schools began as secretarial schools, then expanded into accounting or bookkeeping and similar subjects. They are typically operated as businesses, rather than as institutions of higher learning.

Business School?
What are my chances and what
do I need to get into a top 10
MBA school. I have a GPA of
3.9 from UC Santa Cruz,
Business Management, two years
of public accounting
experience (Senior Level). I
have great letters of
recommendation from my
manager. What GMAT score do I
need to ensure that I get in?

A 3.9 from a UC school is good enough where even the top schools will take you seriously. The top schools want four years of work experience. Some may take three -- but some may reject you or put you off for a year. If you can get 700+ on your GMAT than you have a legitimate shot at every school. With a 600+, you might get into a few top 20 schools -- but would increase your chances by waiting another year. Your essays may well be the determining factor in getting in. Get someone who has gone to a top B-School to read them over before you send them in. |

What were the most important I have been interested in
business and becoming an
entrepreneur. I am just
wondering if business school
is the right thing for me, or
if I should just go out and
learn it on my own with my
current business. I am just
wondering what the most
important things are that your
taught in business school that
people who have not gone to
business school don't know.
