...Zerubbabel (, Zərubbāvel; Greek: ζοροβαβελ, Zŏrobabel) was a governor of Judah () and the grandson of Jehoiachin, penultimate king of Judah. Zerubbabel led the first band of Jews, numbering 42,360, who returned from the Babylonian Captivity in the first year of Cyrus, King of Persia (Ezra)(538BC). Zerubbabel also laid the foundation of the Second Temple in Jerusalem the next year. Muslim historian Ya'qubi attributed the recovery of the Torah and the Books of the Prophets to him instead of Ezra. The Seder Olam Zutta lists him as the Exilarch in Babylon to succeed Shealtiel. The texts are conflicting as to whether Zerubbabel was the son of Shealtiel or his nephew. His son Meshullam succeeded him as Exilarch, and was followed by another son Hananiah. He also had a daughter called Shelomith. () Little else is known about him. Read full entry

What is symbolized by the Zec 4:10 For who hath despised
the day of small things? for
they shall rejoice, and shall
see the plummet in the hand of
Zerubbabel with those seven;
they are the eyes of the LORD,
which run to and fro through
the whole earth.
Very good Schneb, but he is
building the temple.
1Co 6:19 What? know ye not
that your body is the temple
of the Holy Ghost which is in
you, which ye have of God, and
ye are not your own?

A plummet was used by the builders both then, and today to keep the wall construction straight. God is talking to Zechariah regarding the rebuilding of the temple. This is the "local" prophetic view, but there is also a "foreshadow" of the coming temple to be built in the last days. The plumline set is God's plan for both. That the building of the walls of the rebuilt temple will be straight and true, as well as the timeline for the last days will go just as He had prophesied. Notice after this, He goes right into the two witnesses seen in Revelation. Daniel, Zechariah and Revelation, fit perfectly together like a prophetic jigsaw puzzle. http://www.schneblin.com/studi es/pdfs/introduction_to_revela tion.pdf |

Was Zerubbabel ever a King in Or was Zedekiah the last King?

According to the HarperCollins Bible Dictionary (an excellent book!), Zerubbabel was responsible for rebuilding the temple (the Second Temple). He is also mentioned as the leader of one of the returning groups of exiles. In Haggai 1:1 and 2:2 he is given the title "governor"; the same title is given to the official administrator of Judah under Persian rule (found by archaeologists on an official seal). The HCBD says that he was probably appointed governor of Judah by Darius - so, he was not king. However, Zed certainly was not the last king - *and* (this is important) Zed was never king of Israel, but instead was king of Judah! Centuries after Zerubbabel, Judah regained its independence under the Maccabees and was ruled by the Hasmonean dynasty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H asmonean The kingdom of Judah was ruled independently under the Hasmoneans for over 100 years, but then the Romans stepped in and a few years later Jesus... SO *Saul* - king of all the tribes of Israel *David* - likewise, though he was first king of Judah before becoming also king of all the tribes of Israel *Solomon* - also king of all the tribes of Israel *Rehoboam* - when he is king, there is civil war and the North becomes the kingdom of Israel while the South becomes the kingdom of Judah. The two are never rejoined. .... .... * Israel is conquered and exiled by the Assyrians * Babylon conquers Assyria * Zedekiah - last king of Judah under Babylonian rule * Babylonian Captivity (of the kingdom of Judah) * Return of the exiles, rebuilding of the temple, Judah is a province of the Persian empire * Alexander the Great conquers Persia * Alexander dies, his empire is split into 4 pieces. Judah is part of the Seleucid Empire. * Simon Maccabeus becomes king of an independent Judah after a successful revolt by his brother Judah * Judah makes a compact with Rome - so nobody messes with them for a while (100 years) * Eventually, Rome decides to ignore the compact and take direct control of Judah. * Rome sets up a puppet king (the Herodians). * About 40 years after Herod the Great begins to reign, Jesus is born. What do you think of the name |

Is that Biblical? Why don't you choose a name that won't be made fun of in this century. Pick something like Paul or David or Malachi. I hope things work out, good luck and God bless! |
