This question makes no sense. Are you talking about Wi-Fi or this question about web wiki's? If it's web wikis you're referring to this question would make more sense the internet section. |

How do I start a Wiki website?
I'm looking to build a wiki
website similar to Wikipedia,
except about a single topic. I
don't think this subject has
been done with a wiki yet. I
appreciate any help to these
questions even if you don't
know all the answers.
1. Would I have to do any
programming (HTML) or is there
a basic template to download?
Link to this template?
2. Would it be hard to add
Adsense? Is there a better
advertising /revenue producing
medium to use with a Wiki
website?
3. Where's the best and
cheapest hosting for a wiki
website?
4. Would I have to write alot
of the pages to get things
going, or would people be
willing to start it off?
Thanks so much.

See http://www.squidoo.com/how-to- start-a-wiki/ for an overview on how to start a wiki. The easiest way is to go to Wikia.com since they provide free hosting for wikis and you wouldn't need to install the software yourself. They have staff available to help you with your wiki. You should expect to write most of the initial content yourself. People won't visit until there's something interesting for them to read which brings them there. You will need to learn wikitext, but it's much simpler than HTML. Wikia has a tutorial on this at http://www.wikia.com/wiki/tuto rial |

How can I start a wiki with my I am looking to start a wiki
on the home buying process
with how-tos, industry terms,
etc. I like the look and
layout of wikipedia, and I
know how to use that. Any
ideas?
I like the answers so far, but
they are fairly obvious. Keep
in mind I know NOTHING about
databases, MySQL, php, apache,
etc. I am a layman.

If you are happy to redirect your domain to your wiki rather than really having the wiki there, I suggest you use Wikia which provides free wiki hosting. That way you can focus on the content rather than having to worry about the technical side or fighting spam which Wikia will handle for you. They already have a Real Estate wiki you might be interested in: http://realestate.wikia.com/ |
