Why does a salt containing acation from a weak base and ananion from a strong acid forman acidic soltion?
Please explain! Thanks
OK, let's call the salt AB. That's because the acid and base that formed the salt were HA and BOH. We're told that BOH is weak, but HA is strong. That is, HA doesn't exist in water; it all dissociates into H+ and A-. But BOH exists at equilibrium in water; some dissociates, but not all. And since equilibria work in both directions, when you put a bunch of B+ in the water, some BOH will form. So when you put the salt into solution, it first dissociates into A- and B+ ions. The A- ions don't do anything, because HA is strong. But the B+ ions form some BOH by taking OH- anions from the water around them. Of course, this means that some H+ cations, which were attached to the OH- anions, are now floating freely around the solution, making it acidic.
2. Which of the followingstatements is CORRECT? a.Semistrong-form marketefficiency implies that?
a.Semistrong-form market efficiency implies that as soon as any public or private information comes into being it is incorporated into stock prices. b.Weak-form market efficiency implies that recent trends in stock prices are of no use in predicting future stock prices. c.Market efficiency implies that all stocks should have the same expected return. d.According to strong-form market efficiency, insiders would find it possible to consistently earn abnormal returns in the stock market even if they have superior knowledge about the company. e.Studies of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis suggest that neither the weak-form nor the semi-strong forms of efficiency hold, especially for larger companies. However, the market appears to be strong-form efficient because institutional traders make abnormal profits.
EMH comes in 3 forms: 1) Weak form:Past price history is of little use in earning excess profits. 2) Semi-strong: Past history and fundamental public info is of little use in earning excess profits. 3) Strong: Even inside, non-public information is of little use in earning excess profits. Therefor: a) False-Private non-public info is useful under semi-strong. b) True c) False-Depends on risk of individual security d) False-Even insiders should not earn abnormal, superior, or excess returns e) False-Under strong form, traders should not earn abnormal profits. B is the only Correct statement
___ are weak bonds that arenot strong enough to holdatoms together to formmolecules ?
but are strong enough to form bridges between molecules a. ionic bonds b. covalent bonds c. polar covalent bonds d. hydrogen bonds e. anionic bonds
Answer: Hydrogen bonds: They form when there is a dipole-dipole force between a hydrogen bond donor and a hydrogen bond acceptor. Hydrogen bonds are weaker then all of the bond mentioned above. Edit: I'm not sure what anionic bonds are either, however I know that hydrogen bonds do not form molecules. They can join molecules together, like water, but they are not strong enough to hold atoms together. Hydrogen bonds are not as stable, and generally do not last long. They are always breaking and reforming.
