Historical Origin
The term ward originally referred to the political subdivision of some of the municipalities in the Mid-western United States where members of the LDS Church resided, and in particular the political organization of Nauvoo, Illinois in the 1840's. Bishops were assigned duties and responsibility over specific ward boundaries in these cities, and over time individual congregations were defined by these boundaries. After the Mormon Exodus to Utah, this same terminology was preserved in the establishment of communities throughout the western USA. Indeed, voting districts of several Utah communities still follow the historical boundaries of their original LDS congregations. Due to the religious connection of this term, traditional Mormon pioneer communities generally do not use the term ward to define voting districts for political purposes. How can I prove to someone in I searched LDS.org for the
words "nett" "gross" and
"tithe" and "tithing" and
found nothing. I Googled those
words and came accross this on
lightplanet (however I have
never heard of John Walsh and
want something more
authoritive. Perhaps the ("I
have a question" section of an
Ensign):
W. John Walsh
By revelation to the Prophet
Joseph Smith, the Lord stated
that members should pay
"one-tenth of all their
interest [increase] annually;
and this shall be a standing
law unto them forever." (D&C
119:4) Present Church policy
specifically states that no
one in the Church has any
authority to interpret this
revelation for another person
(See Financial Clerk's
Handbook). This prohibition
applies to everyone, including
Stake Presidents and Bishops.
If a local Church leader
instructs you how to calculate
your tithing, then he is in
violation of this policy. It
is up to the agency of each
individual person to determine
what constitute's a fair
interpretation of the
revelation.

When in doubt give more not less. Baptist believe it's all his anyway. It's not what you give it's what you would hold back that defines the sin. The tithe is not a New Testament concept, forsaking all and following him is. |

I sort of feel sorry for you. It just sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder for some reason. I'm certain it's not going to help you by trying to convince people the Mormon faith is false. Religion is faith based and individual. All relgions, especially western, cannot be proved by factual evidence or lack thereof, because they rely on faith; just like you can't prove God exists. Each person must come to terms with their own spirituality and become secure in their skin and beliefs. That being said, and having faith, God does answer prayers. If someone received wisdom from God, which is what all Christians should do, we should respect them and let them live as they will. I have sought wisdom from God and gratefully have been enlightened by Him. I hope you too can find your self in God. Good luck. |
