...The term underweight refers to a human who is considered to be under a healthy weight. The definition is usually made with reference to the body mass index (BMI). A BMI of under 18.5 is usually referred to as underweight. This medical definition of underweight may differ from other uses of the term, such as those based on attractiveness.
Causes
The most common cause of a person being underweight is primarily malnutrition caused by the unavailability of adequate food, which can run as high as 50% in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. The effects of primary malnutrition may be amplified by disease; even easily treatable diseases such as diarrhea may lead to death. I'm 17, 5'4 and I weight 73
pounds.
Is that really underweight?
I mean I don't really look
that skinny but when I tell
people my weight they freak
out and call me anorexic.

I used to get that too. If that's your natural weight and youre confident with it, dont think about what others say. I'm 5'1, 20 and about 100 pounds. |

People who are underweight get hit hard. When I had a low, unhealthy bmi people would always tell me that I need to get some help and they forced me to eat. It was a pretty painful time. Just let your friend know that you care about her and her health. Don't be too pushy though. Encourage her to gain some weight in a healthy way. |

Is there a term for people who I feel better when I am
underweight, and have put on
muscle mass to get to normal
weight but hate the extra

No its fine to be underweight if you are eating healthily and getting the nutrients your body needs. If you know you are underweight you don't have a disorder, and you just like yourself being this way If this helps your confidence its fine! stay healthy and have fun :) |
