I saw you ask this in another question, and it's a great question to ask. Paganism is an umbrella term much in the same way that 'Christian' is an umbrella term referring to a wide collection of different denominations OF Christianity. According to Wikipedia, Paganism is, "Paganism (from Latin paganus, meaning "country dweller, rustic", also called paynimry) is a word used to refer to various religions and religious beliefs from across the world. It is a term which, from a Western perspective, has modern connotations of spiritualist, animistic or shamanic practices or beliefs of any folk religion, and of historical and contemporary polytheistic religions in particular." So, there are many belief systems that fall under the classification of Pagan including (but not limited to) Wicca, witchcraft (yes those two are different), Hellenism, Asatru, Heathenism, Yoruba, Voodun, Santeria, Native American spirituality, Shamanism, Spiritualism, and New Agers. |
