National Rail Enquiries will be able to help with regards to trains. Trains to Manchester leave from London Euston station. National Express and Megabus are likely to have buses running from London Victoria coach station.

Wow. As a mother of 2 cats I must say, let me know when you find out. Cats aren't the trained type. Its in a dog's nature to please the master. A cat believes she is the master. Over 3 years and 2 cats, I've taught them "get down", "no", and "food". I can also ask one if she wants to see the turtle (I have a turtle) and she'll go straight to the turtle's tank and wait for me. None of these things are tricks. They hear the word "food" whenever I'm feeding them. They hear "no" and "get down" whenever they are doing wrong. They know the turtle because I always say his name when I am standing in that spot. One comes when I say "Come here" and that's nothing shy of a miracle. Here's what you can do. Constantly show your kitty where her litter box is when they seem like they need to go. They don't like to go in various places. Once they know where the box is, they will most likely go there on their own. They may whine or stand at their food dish when hungry but that's no promise. Other than that, your cat will do nothing just to entertain. In a cat's mind, YOU should be entertaining them.

How do train drivers know whento start braking for a trainstation?
I always wonder this when on a train. Trains take so long to slow down, sometimes a mile away from the station, how do they know the point to pick so they get into the station without over-shooting? Has anyone known a train to overshoot its station? What happens then, surely it cannot reverse!
Part of the training a train driver undertakes is called route learning. The trainee will travel in the cab with an experienced driver, and must learn the route in great detail, including the correct location to begin applying the brake for stations, speed restrictions etc., as well as signal details, gradients and other items. Before a driver is allowed over a route on his own, he will have to pass an exam on the route, as well as a practical ride-out with a driver manager. The driver then has to sign a legally binding document called a route card, to certify that he is competent to drive over that particular route. If a period of six months or more elapses between drives over that route, the driver must have a route-refresher to maintain familiarity. Occasionally, trains overshoot stations, usually because low rail adhesion causes poor brake performance. There are strict procedures for dealing with this. In some cases, the train can be driven back to the station, but only when certain conditions are met, including permission from the signaller, subject to distance involved and whether local features such as level crossings are present. Such events are very rare, because driver training is of a very high standard.
