What town shall I live in theUSA that is similar toGeorgetown, DC or an englishtown?
My husband and I will be moving to the states soon, I am english and we currently live in Surrey. When we move, I want to live somewhere that is similar to England and is a bit historic with an outdoor town. I really like Georgetown, DC but it is much too expensive. I also like Charleston, SC. Does any one know any other towns similar to these?
I am a native of Pittsburgh, PA and let me say...it is a very affordable place to live. Pittsburgh is often ranked number one as the most liveable city in the USA. It has relatively low crime. It has good hospitals, good education for children, good education for adults (many universities and colleges), and good food. Pittsburgh also has a good symphony orchestra and some interesting attractions like skiing in the nearby mountains, if you are into that. The only downside of Pittsburgh is that it has very little night life. People really don't live in the city, it's mostly office buildings, so after 6 PM on a weekday, it's dead. Because of this, it is not as quaint as Georgetown, with its many small shops and eateries and coffee shops. Another downside is that public transportation is not nearly as good as Washington DC's. You might also wish to scope-out some of the smaller cities in the South like in the states of Georgia or South Carolina. The one thing that we are really lacking as a nation is a good public transportation system that is reliable and affordable. We Americans are overly obsessed with our automobiles.
What is the smallest town witha locally owned bank?
The bank where I primarily do my banking is located in a town with a population of 208 people. It is not a branch but a single location where all business and processing is done. Is this found anywhere else? I can find single banks in larger towns and bank branches in towns this small. I can't find an independent bank in such a small town like this one. No website yet. They did add optional debit cards back in 2003 or 2004.
Not many of those left, for sure! If there were, they probably wouldn't even have a website or even be mentioned online.
How are small town valuesdifferent from those whoreside in large metropolitanareas ?
Fred Thompson said in his speech that Sarah Palin was from a small town and had small town values. What exactly does that mean. ? I am from Philadelphia( the sixth most populous city in America) and I want to know why coming from a large city is bad. I go to work, pay my taxes and even attend church regularly.I care for and love my country just like someone from a city of 6,000. Do people in small towns feel superior to us? Do they think they have the upperhand when it comes to values and morals? I am just curious.
I think you will find "small town" values change everywhere. I'm from a town of about 9,000 (one of the larger ones in Vermont if you can beleive it), but our town still voted 65% or so for Kerry in the last election, even though our state has a Republican Governor and an Independent senator. "Small town values" is a made up phrase by Republican politicians that is somehow supposed to be a cosy way of saying "conservative values." They're not at all the same. And for the record, my town and Wasillia are the same size, and our town manager is brain-dead. Governing over 9000 people is like saying you take care of plants: for the most part they take care of themselves.
