Tics can be invisible to the observer, such as abdominal tensing or toe crunching. Common motor and phonic tics are, respectively, eye blinking and throat clearing.Malone DA Jr, Pandya MM. "Behavioral neurosurgery". Adv Neurol. 2006;99:241–47. PMID 16536372 Movements of other movement disorders (for example, chorea, dystonia, myoclonus) must be distinguished from tics. Other conditions, such as autism and stereotypic movement disorder, also include movements which may be confused with tics. How do you get rid of tics on My cat Rufus is covered in
tics because he spends all day
hunting in long glass and
snoozing in fields at the back
of our house. I've been using
Frontline tic & flea treatment
but it's not working :( I've
also got a little tic remover
from the vet but it's tricky
when Rufy's fur is so long.
The tics are mostly near his
ears and neck but they're hard
to see.
Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Frontline is the best thing to use but if you look at the packet you will see that you have to use it every 2 weeks for full protection again ticks. Just make sure you're getting it all on the skin when you use it. Frontline, or any tick treatment will not actually stop the ticks attaching but will kill them quickly making it easy to flick them off. Chalice |

How can I get rid of fleas and Well, a lady down my block was
selling some black Lab pups
and we got one. He kind of has
a lot of fleas but not too
much for his size. I wanted to
know what are some ways of
getting rid of his fleas and a
tiny bit of tics. Also, I
wanted to know if those flea
and tick collars really work
on dogs and if they do, is (i
think it's called) Hertz a
good brand for my puppy.

Garlic powder on thier food is a natural remedy. I put a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil and sprinkle garlic powder on my min pins food and that is all I use. Also check and make sure your yard is not infested with fleas and you should be okay. Clean the pup up and try the natural remedy or frontline is great too. |

Light weight white clothing shows the ticks right away. If long sleeves and pants are worn and tied or taped with duct tape at the wrist and ankles, you can get far less bites. Using an Avon product on your skin after a shower but before out doors, called "skin-so-soft, is a light body oil which is nice and pleasant, will help under clothing. Then with the top layer of clothing, on the cloth itself, I would spray a product with deet in it. Taking Benedryll before and during will cause the bug bitting insects to not want to bite you, plus the added benefit of the Hystomine being blocked to reduce the effect of bug bites. If light weight clothing is not in your closet, visit a material store before your trip. A lot of cloth is sold in material stores that are cheap, light weight, and allow air flow without adding heat or heavy clothing. My suggestions are based on a child of mine being severly allergic from birth from all bitting bugs, including ones during cold winters that can't even be seen. He is now 12 years old, and with the doctors and hospitals advice over the years, we certainly don't feel quilty anymore giving him what they called a "maintenance dose" in the morning and evening of Benedryll. When he was bitten, the bites didn't swell to need hospitals or a doctors care as the bites were reduced to not even itch. In closing....don't fear the bites of bugs as much. Take a few things to make the outcome better, but enjoy your trip more. As a family who loves outdoors and camping, our son never missed out on the fun. Without the Benedryll, the bites within a foot area of his body could total more then 100 bites....with the Benedryll, this was reduced to maybe 2 or 3 per foot area. Good Luck and have fun! |
