What is a "Tarlov Cyst?
I have had back pain for 6
years, numerous injections,
physical therapy, etc. A
doctor now wants me to try out
a Spinal Cord Stimulator but
that was before we found out I
had Tarlov Cyst. Should I see
of the Tarlov Cyst is causing
some of the symptoms are not?
Thank you
Jo

Need help understanding my I had an MRI done on my back
bc of severe lower back pain
about 4 months ago (the pain
is gone). The MRI came back
"unremarkable" but did note
that there is "a Tarlov cyst
at the S2 level of the
sacrum." Huh? My doctor didn't
go over with me, so I guess
it's not important. Help. What
made it happen? Will it go
away? What's a sacrum??
Well, is the cyst going to
hurt it??

The sacrum is a large, triangular bone at the base of the spine and at the upper and back part of the pelvic cavity, where it is inserted like a wedge between the two hip bones. Its upper part connects with the last lumbar vertebra, and bottom part with the coccyx (tailbone). It is curved upon itself and placed obliquely (that is, tilted forward). It is kyphotic - that is, concave facing forwards. The base projects forward as the sacral promontory internally, and articulates with the last lumbar vertebra to form the prominent sacrovertebral angle. The central part is curved outward towards the posterior, allowing greater room for the pelvic cavity |

To apply for SSDI, which is the term for government-funded disability, you must not have worked for at least 6 months due to an illness or disability. You must be completely unable to work due to illness or disability. Second, you will need to apply by either going to www.ssa.gov or calling the national number for the SSA. The whole process is an extremely grueling process and is much more involved than just getting a note from the doctor. Please be aware that there is a huge backlog in SSDI cases. Almost everyone is turned down initially or at the appeals stage. Most cases end up in front of administrative judge with the wait time being 20-22 months to actually get a court date. |
