I am getting my second tattoo and being that my first is in latin I wanted also for my second to be in a non english language. I am from oklahoma and of cherokee blood so I really wanted to get "truly blessed" in tsalagi syllabary but cant seem to find a translation system online. Any suggestions?
I can't put the Cherokee font here because Yahoo doesn't support it. But here is the website for the Cherokee Dikaneisdi (word list) just put in the English word you want translated and if there is a Cherokee equivilent it will give you the word spelled phonetically and the Cherokee font. http://www.cherokee.org/Cultur e/Lexicon/Default.aspx
Is a syllabary the best typeof writing system for a globallanguage?
What do you think? It saves time to write.
Whether or not a syllabary system is the best depends on the language. Certain languages (eg English) have such a large number of possible syllables that such a system would be cumbersome and difficult to learn. Other languages (eg Japanese) are better suited to be written with a syllabary system because they have a far more limited number of possibly syllables and a strict consonant-vowel structure that English doesn't have.
When do Japaneses use thesyllabary hiragana and when dothey use katakana?
Hiragana can be used to spell out everything but foreign words and names. Foreign things are in katakana. For example, "heart"'s syllables spelled out in Japanese would be "haato" or ハート, which is katakana, because you're not using the actual translation of the word.
