if u hv ADD - pl see a doctor. dont take medication but learn new techniques to concentrate eg mind-mapping. u can train yourself to see things in daylight sequence - or awake hours when u do things, then u plan to see things in week sequence - remembering days of the week and what u did then u try to remember month sequence where u train to remember important events then it goes to year sequence. this needs training the mind. when u get your sequence your memory falls into place and u can remember what u learnt in january 2008. then it goes on and on. pl try. dont waste $$ on those memory pills etc. its all to make u cough out $$ to make someone else rich. just keep on training your mind!! and do it diligently and every day. weekends - just relax do your own thing- swimming, exercise or laze around |

How long should I study? What I'm currently studying Arabic
language, my teacher said I
have to study at least 1 hour
per day at home. But its not
enough, so I usually study in
my room for 4 hours or so. But
sometimes I get bored.
My friend said study for 40
minutes then rest for a while
then continue to study for
another 40 minutes.
Maybe there is another way to
study? So I don't get bored
easily? And much more
effective?

I think the best way to study without being bored is to relax yourself. For example, before you start to study, you have to clear up your mind and think only about happy things and concentrate on the book. Make sure you're far from any distractions. Sometimes you do get bored no matter what. In that case, you just have to leave your desk a little while and walk around your room or your house or looking out of the windows so that your brain absorb new pictures. But don't take this too long. I see you're studying Arabic, then I'd say the best way is to practice, as they always say, 'Practice makes perfect.' You should watch Arabic news on TV or listen to the Arabic radio. You can also practice your Arabic with your classmates! Best lucks! |

Why is the study of religious I have a degree in religious
studies, and I'm very
interested in religious
rituals. Most of the books
about it are written by
anthropologists, and some use
jargon of that field that I am
not very familiar with. Why is
ritual classified as a subject
for anthropology, rather than
religious studies?
What would be the difference
between someone who studied
ritual as an anthropologist,
and one who studied it as a
"religious study"? Would the 2
have different perspectives?

I am bachelor in sociology and I have also wondered where is the border between all these sciences. Anthropology is generally the science that examines the way people live in the different social realms. A science for the society but is interested in the human beings living in this society not the processes in it that is work for the sociology. Anthropology is very close to culturology, ethnology, sociology even philosophy. Have in mind that these sciences are very close and unlike the sciences like mathematics, chemistry etc. most of the authors are at the same time :anthropologists; culturologists; sociologists etc. In this case the religion is being studied as an object and it can be analyzed in different ways under the point of view of each of the sciences I mentioned, or just as religious ritual study, there could be even other variants. The problem is that the texts that the authors create are often unclear if they are anthropological, culturological or smth else. So you see it is very complicated picture, I hope I helped ;) |
