Once I've identified strongsectors on the stock market, how do I identify strongindustries within them?
I'm trying to follow a 'simple' process for identifying good stocks on any stock market - US and UK especially. I am missing a link - identifying strong industries after I've identified strong sectors that they're in. I need to know what web tools I could use to do this. Thanks!
I have never seen a source that drills down in a sector to individual industries. I have seen sources that define the sectors more narrowly, which may be of some help. Take a look at barchart.com http://www2.barchart.com/secto rs.asp?base=industry Prophet.net http://www.prophet.net/explore /sectorrankings.jsp allows you to change the time frame when you to look at the rankings . These sites only lists stocks traded in the U.S.
What are some industries inthe stock market that are andwill be strong?
For example: Metals and mining, steel, shipping have been strong and will be from the growth of the world (and seem unstoppable!), what others are similar?
Metals and mining are good now, but be careful in the future with that one. It is not just global growth that is fueling metals, but also the falling dollar, and to a lesser extent inflation. There is a rush to commodities going on now, that is essentially a flight away from cash. If, in the future, the Fed increases interest rates and the dollar starts rising, watch out! Defensive non-cyclical staples stocks are pretty good now; like MO, PEP, & KO. Some hot stocks that are working are in medical devices like ISRG, or elec gadgets like AAPL & RIMM, or internet/software in general like GOOG, MSFT or BBBB, or the best biotech like BIIB or CELG.
what are the strong, ongoingindustries in the US?
what the hell do we manufacture here?
Greed and decadence.... My guess would be.... Oil Industry Fast food/ Food Industry Pharmaceutical Industry Financial Services Industry Medical Industry Politico-Legal Industry Religion (if you want to look at it as a multi-billion dollar business) That is what we are good and profitable at. Most other industries like textiles and Automobiles and manufacturing in general have been moved overseas where labor is cheaper.
