...South Pass (elevation ) is a mountain pass on the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains in southwestern Wyoming. The pass is located in a broad valley between the Wind River Range to the north and the Antelope Hills to the south, in southwestern Fremont County, approximately 35 miles (54 km) SSW of Lander. The pass furnishes a natural crossing point of the Rockies and has historically been the route for the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and Mormon Trail during the 19th century. It is a U.S. National Historic Landmark. The pass is a broad open saddle with prairie and sagebrush, allowing a broad and nearly level route between the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds. The Sweetwater River rises on the east side of the pass, and Pacific Creek rises on the west side. Read full entry

South Pass, located in Wyoming at the southern end of the Wind River Mountains, gained notoriety because the emigrant trail to Oregon and California ran through it. There are claims that John Colter discovered the South Pass in 1807 or 1808, and that Robert Stuart and the returning Astorians crossed it in 1812, but both claims are disputed. It is certain that the effective discovery was made in 1824 by Thomas Fitzpatrick, a fur trader. Capt. Benjamin L. E. Bonneville first took wagons over the pass in 1832, and a few years later it became the mountain gateway on the Oregon Trail. The mountain range is the Wind River Range and Antelope Hills of the Rocky Mountains |

Can you buy a one day pass to Wondering where to buy one day

Unfortunately, you can no longer buy day passes or individual tickets for specific shows; you have to purchase a badge. Go to sxsw.com to register - the platinum badge ($950) gets you in to all of events, and the music badge ($600) covers all of the music venues. It is really sad how much it has gone up - they market it to out-of-state/out-of-country tourists. When I first moved to Austin, you could pay $5 to get into any music venue (without a badge or separate lines). The good news is that, much like ACL, many of the groups who come down for SXSW will also schedule individual gigs all around town, so you could still have the chance to catch a group you like at a non-SXSW event. Good luck! |
