Has anyone here studied or I'm considering a career in
social medicine, I am
especially interested in the
correlation between the
respect of human rights and
epidemics such as AIDS. Do I
have to have a doctoral degree
in social medicine? If I do
that, what kind of job can I
expect to have later? Can I
expect to do fieldwork? Are
NGOs and the Unicef interested
in hiring people with a
background in social medicine
or is better to be a medical
doctor?
Simply put, could you give me
all the information you have
on the subject. Thanks!

You could major in public health which is a concentration of the health science degree. It is basically exactly what you are looking for, helping people through giving them information and teaching them about diseases and hazards in their community. My public health professor told me that it is very hard to get a job with your bachelors degree, she suggested that I at least get my masters before trying to find a job. I ended up switching majors to Environmental health, its similar except you protect people from environmental and workplace hazards. I would look into the public health major, it sounds like something you would enjoy. Stony Brook University (NY) has an awsome program if you are looking for a school. |

Probably, but it won't cure a thing. Medicines for mental disorders do nothing to fix the problem. All they do is numb your mind a little making things appear to be easier to cope with. If you want a lasting and satisfying cure, look into cognitive therapy and learn how to confront the cause of the anxiety. St. John's Wort and Omega-3 Fish Oil are effective and are much better than having to take prescription drugs with dangerous side effects. |
