Question about Germany's How did the SPD stay alive
when they were under the name
"SOPADE" in exile during WII?
How did they survive as a
party to come back into power
in 1945 if they were rounded
up by the National Socialist
German Workers' Party?
How come it took until 1969
(24 years) for them to have a
Chancellor of the SPD party?
Was that because the
population of the party was
diminished by the aftermath of
the war?
Or was West Germany in
opposition to the elements of
the same party that became the
SED in East Germany?
I know what the SPD is, I just
wanted to know more
information about the impact
of WWII Germany on the party.
