...There are two forks to the San Jacinto river, simply known as the East and West Forks. The west fork of the San Jacinto River feeds Lake Conroe and flows south through Montgomery County to meet with the east fork in northeast Harris County to form Lake Houston. The east fork springs in San Jacinto County, north of the Sam Houston National Forest. Tributaries of both forks spring within just a few miles of Lake Livingston, a reservoir on the Trinity River. The east fork flows south through Cleveland in Liberty County as it heads to Montgomery County and meets the north end of Lake Houston. Continuing southward, the river meets with Buffalo Bayou and feeds the Houston Ship Channel. Read full entry

Houston, TX-area bank fishing? Would anybody from the Houston
area happen to have some areas
for bank fishing?
Specifically, I'm interested
in knowing if any of the
following local places are
fishable (from land), and if
so, what can you catch:
Buffalo/White Oak/Other Bayous
San Jacinto River
Ship Channel
Also...any good spots around
here to bankfish for gar? I've
always been a saltwater
fisherman and have recently
become obsessed with going on
my first gar-fishing trip.
Thanks!

Brays bayou had a few large ones last week along the bank at the bridge on Lawndale. You can fish along the bank as far as Mason park from Lawndale on either side. I seen a guy pull in between a 4 1/2" to 5 footer a few months back using live perch or bluegill or something like that under cork. When I was younger I used circle hooks and would catch them every time. |
