Too much salt can cause fluid retention, and aggrevate heart problems and high blood pressure. Avoid processed foods. Most processed foods (TV dinners, canned soups, etc) have way too much salt. Read the labels. Cook for yourself and don't add salt when you cook. Buy Morton Light Salt - more potassium, less sodium. Don't salt food at the table. Be aware when you eat out that the food is very salty and make up for it on the next meal. |

Aquarium salt is pure sodium chloride the same as pickling salt. Sea salt is just that.....from the sea and is full of trace elements. Rock salt can come from different sources but the best comes from ancient sea beds which has to be mined. EDIT: Sea salt is not high in iodine but does contain it. Iodine aids in the production of thyroxin which is a hormone which helps control metabolisim. Iodine prevents a thyroid condition called goiter. |
