Questions/Answers
Rollo of Normandy/William I"Longsword" of Normandy?
Some sources list Poppa (Papia) as Rollo's wife and daughter of Berengar II of Neustria. Others list her as the daughter of Pepin of Senlis. Which one is correct? Give more info on her. Please help. Thanks. That didn't answer my question. You just copied that off Wikipedia!
Berengar II (died 896) was the Count of Bayeux and Rennes and Margrave of the Breton March from 886 until his death a decade later. Berengar was named for Berengar I of Neustria, but was most likely the son of Henry of Franconia, himself a member of the Senior Capets through the Babenberg lineage. He is likely to have been Henry's son because (1) Berengar named his daughter the feminine form of Poppo, a name common among the Babenbergs, and (2) the main Capetian branch had traditionally held the Breton March. Berengar became the first Gallo lord holding residence within Brittany, as a consequence of the Breton nobility being more or less broken under the Viking invasions of the 880s and as a reward for holding his ground against their attacks. Berengar married the daughter of Gurvand, Duke of Brittany, by which relationship he attained the countship of Rennes. His brother-in-law, Judicael became Duke of Brittany. Berengar's son was Judicael Berengar, who succeeded him as Count of Rennes. His daughter was Poppa, who was strategically wed to Rollo of Normandy.
What can I find the correctfamily charts for royalty?
Where can I find the correct family charts for both ancestry and descendants of these people until it descends to Rollo of Normandy? I keep finding various names in different places but can't figure it out. Basically I need all of Rollo's ancestors as far back as it will go. Come someone please help me? I tried Google but I can't figure out any of the pages that were listed.
Try www.thepeerage.com, they have details of most of the royal families of Europe including William the Conquerer. Their info is more reliable than most.
