How much is my republic of I have a republic of texas $50
bill. It is dated 1839 and the
back side is blank. It has to
be very rare because I have
searched and searched the
internet for it and either
found only replicas for sale
or nothing at all. I this is
an original because I found it
in the middle of some pages of
a book that belonged to my
great grandfather and the book
is dated 1856. Can anyone tell
me what this is worth if

Texas fought for its freedom from Mexico in large part because of the American settlers that moved there. People like Bowie and Crockett were famous examples of men that came from the US to Texas and wanted to gain the people there the freedom that they had known in the US. There were a number of Mexicans in the area that felt betrayed and mistreated by the government of Mexico. After winning their independence, the Texans still ended up fighting a number of battles with the Mexicans and losses mounted on both sides. That may have been a factor that contributed to their wanting to join the US. They already had a sizable portion of citizens that had come from the US originally, then they also wanted the increased security that being a state provided. |
