...Railtrack was a group of companies that owned the track, signalling, tunnels, bridges, level crossings and all but a handful of the stations of the British railway system from its formation in April 1994 until 2002. The Company was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index but on 3 October 2002, the main operating arm - the owner and operator of the national railway network, Railtrack PLC - was sold by its parent company Railtrack Group plc to "not for dividend" company Network Rail (a company limited by guarantee) and was later renamed Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd. You will need to check with your local township/city. Each area has their own regulations regarding this. If you own the property in question, it might be a good idea to go to any zoning hearings regarding the rail line. |

After the fines imposed on This relates to the over
running rail engineer work
performed over Christmas,
which caused widespread delays
and consternation.
Most of these fines are
meaningless as the capital
comes from the state in the
first place, so how should we
inflict punitive measures.
My thought is that at the
beginning of the financial
year a bonus formula could be
worked out and set in stone.
All initial fines could be
taken directly out of that pot
for senior management and
directors, as it appears that
it's their decisions that
principally cause the
problems.

A good question! This is something I never really understood - I remember the metropolitan police were recently fined millions - I think it was over the shooting of that Brazilian chap around the London bombings - how on earth is that going to help anyone? Surely you only punish the person on the street if the police are losing money? In terms of your specific question - I don't know if taking it out of senior management is the best solution. I think if this were the case you just wouldn't be able to attract any good managers - certainly if the stakes were this high (i.e. they had to foot the bill for £14m). That way you would just end up with even worse management... But its a difficult one! Probably a fundamental problem with a mix of private and public sector... I don't know the solution though. I suspect the government don't either. |

what is the best way to clean |

The metal rails are best cleaned with very fine grade wet/dry paper wrapped around a small block. This will remove any oxidisation of the rail surface. You might then wipe the track with methylated spirit or a cloth sprayed with WD40. Good luck. |
