Noun
pulley- One of the simple machines; a wheel with a grooved rim in which a pulled rope or chain will lift an object (more useful when two or more pulleys are used together such that a small force moving through a greater distance can exert a larger force through a smaller distance).

...A pulley, also called a sheave or a drum, is a mechanism composed of a wheel on an axle or shaft that may have a groove between two flanges around its circumference. A rope, cable, belt, or chain usually runs over the wheel and inside the groove, if present. Pulleys are used to change the direction of an applied force, transmit rotational motion, or realize a mechanical advantage in either a linear or rotational system of motion. Two or more pulleys together are called a block and tackle. Read full entry

Pulley........................ pulley is frictionless and the
ropes are massless. Given that
m1 = 12.5 kg and m2 = 34.5 kg,
calculate the acceleration of
m2 downwards
What is the magnitude of the
tension in the string?

How do you make a pulley work I need to make a pulley that
works without anyone pulling
on it. I can use a variety of
objects and cause and effect
to make the pulley go. For
example, I can knock a ball
into motion or something to
start the pulley going up.
Also, how exactly do you make
a pulley? It shouldn't be a
big one, it only needs to be
around 6 inches in height.

You can buy pulleys at any Hardware store. You can also use a weight to pull the pulley. |
