Why does the government Our schools desperately need
more funding. Private schools
get funding they dont need,
yet public schools are barely
giving our children the
education they need. Classroom
sizes are big and staff
resources are stretched.
Australian people are being
forced to put their children
in private schooling so they
leave school and know how to
read and write properly! The
problem with this is our
country will become a 2 class
society. Upper and lower. This
is already evident with
certain careers eg:doctors.
Only the rich can provide the
money necessary for their
children to go to Private
schools or Uni. Education
should be free!!! Are we
destined to be another
"America" where the rich get
richer and the poor live under
bridges with their kids as
they couldnt afford their rent
and the government wont
support them?. Come on John
Howard give us a break. You
are paying women to have
children our schools cant
afford to educate! Hope you
are planning to open enough
factories to employ them!

I'm from the US, so not entirely in touch with your problems, though that's never stopped me from answering before! The problem with elected officials is that they all want to be re-elected. If you want to pay for public schools, then you have to do it through taxes, but these days... everyone hates the idea of new or higher taxes. If you want politicians who'll make the tough call when it's needed, you have to have term limits. Being a politician used to be a public service that you did for a time, and then went back to your other career. Today, politicians see the service as a lifelong career with the high probability of even bigger bucks at the end (speaker's fees, book deals, etc.), and so won't make the tough calls. That all said, I don't entirely get your criticism of the US. Education in the US is free through grade 12 for everyone, even non-citizens, and our college system is among the most affordable pay-to-play systems in the world (some state uni's can cost as little as $1,500/year without scholarships). If I had a criticism of our system for shrinking the middle class, it wouldn't be related to education. ...irrelevant to your quesion, I know, but felt the need to mention this nonetheless. |

Do you think football goes I know you have to be in good
shape to play it, but does
playing that game make help
your physical condition? Or
just tear down the body
through constant impact?
And why to government funded,
public schools need to have
football programs?

I wish I had never played and had just stuck to boxing or wrestling. Football is very bad for the skeleton. |

Teach it in religion class or Philosophy and it is fine. As it is not science, or even remotley scientific it does not belong in science class Anyone who think it should be taught in science class must also demand that Mayan mythology be taught in Chemistry joe b> flat out wrong Thomas Jefferson voted in the matter of declaring that the US was in no way a Christian nation The eagle and other symbols are not bible symbols God was not entered into the pledge, motto or put on our money until the 1950s to seperate us from "the godless communists" Created national holidays based on upon when the majority of people had already arranged their calanders There WERE no legislative or military chaplins Had nothing to do with "Blue laws", since they were put in place at local level by puritan communities, found illegal until cities/towns reworded them as civil codes of conduct. Had nothing to do with marriage as this would be a violation of States rights and Jefferson believe in State over Federal Protected the property of churches...because they already owned land Required that in legal proceedings some oath be sworn but did not mandate any official oath Granted land to ANY schools. Allowed government property and facilities to be used for worship by appointment for private functions and were not state sponsered Allowed but never officially encouraged clergy to hold office because the Constitution that he helped write said it could not disqualify based on religion and clergy were educated unlike most of the public Funded ANY books for public libraries to increase literacy Never funded missionaries Did NOT Exempt churches from taxation as they already were under previous tax laws Had nothing to do with schools of theology during his term Never wrote any treaties himself once he became President |
