Proselytism - what is your Do you actually make a link
between many of the current
world conflicts and
proselytism ?
Can you see the link between
proselytism and violence and
aggression ?
Wow Philo, I love it !

Evangelizing, proselytism....I have NO respect for such actions. I have little or no tolerance for it due to bad past experiences. :-((( I gave up listening to people who proselytize. I DO see a link between current conflicts and evangelizing. I see proselytism as an disrespectful 'attack' on another person or group's right to believe or live their lives differently. Proselytism, in essence to me, is saying: ""I hate you. I hate how you are living your life. You HAVE to believe and live as *I* do, cuz I Know better than you."" *sigh* That is what proselytism, evangelizing means to me. |

YOUR OPINION! Do you agree DEFINITION:Proselytism is the
practice of attempting to
convert people to another
opinion, usually another
religion..................My
personal opinion is this, who
do you think you are to try
and convert other people to
your religion? Everyone is
entitled to their own belief.
I am an athiest and even
though I don't believe in gods
and deities, I accept everyone
for what they believe in or
lack there of. And I better
stop typing right now because
I could talk religion all day!
Looking forward to reading
your posts!

I don't believe in it in regards to topics that are not backed up with facts. Politics: yes, you should argue politics because there are (usually) facts to back up why you should believe one way or the other. Science & Medicine: Yes, facts back science and medicine. Math: Yes, math is pure logic. Atheism: I see nothing wrong with trying to convince another person of it because it's nothing BUT logical arguments. But most atheists actually do not care what religion other people are until they are harrassed. Religion: There ARE no facts to back up religion, therefore, religious arguments do not usually hold water. How can you try to convince someone of something without facts? I think that's brainwashing at its finest. |

Does an eternal afterlife I've heard Christians say
things like the only reason to
live this life is that we get
to go to heaven at the end of
it. (This question does not
apply only to Christians)
Is this not a reckless mindset
to have? It consciously
devalues every interaction a
person has in life. Should
people who think like this be
trusted with social, secular
responsibility (say running
the government)?
Share your thoughts please.
P.S. If you are of the
described belief, could you at
least allow those of us who
choose to live this life to
enjoy it free of proselytism
and interference?
truthbearer: Unfortunately I
could not find the exact
comment that inspired this
question; I would have posted
it with the question had I
know where it was. Here are,
however, some examples of
people clearly expressing this
mindset:

There are many other examples
on this site, but I won't
waste any more of my time,
having proved my point. I will
also kindly ask you to not
call me a liar.

This life is a stepping stone to the next life. No one would receive the next life without this life. To trivialize this life is like trivializing the first step on a flight of stairs-- the first step is just as important as the next in order to get you where you are going. As a Christian, I believe that you need to live this life to the fullest--enjoy every minute and spend as much time as you can being 'good' (Insert your own definition of 'good' here to avoid proselytism and interference) which means that we (Christians) should definitely be trusted with social and secular responsibilities because we NEED to do 'good' while we are here in order to get to heaven. |
