Is writing in first person I recently completed a young
adult's fantasy novel. I first
started it in third person,
but soon decided it would
sound better in first person.
It begins in first person
present tense for a few
paragraphs. The main character
then goes into first person
past tense for half the
remaining work, and later it
returns to first person
present tense. I've heard
conflicting views on first
person, especially present
tense. Is it acceptable for
novels? I've heard third
person is most popular, but I
really think it sounds great
in first person.

Third person is most often used. First person is effective when it's appropriate - completely up to the writer. If you get any interest from an agent or publisher, they'll tell you if you need to change the voice. If you don't get any interest, changing the voice probably won't make a difference. |

How do you change this French Maman a quarante ans.
How would you change this from
the present tense into the
future tense? I can normally
do this, but I don't know how
I would do this particular
sentence. Please help and
explain how to do it! Five
stars to the best explanation
or example!

Maman aura quarante ans the verb is "avoir". Unless other verbs, "avoir" doesnt form the futur simply adding endings to the infinitive. You have to change first the stem of the verb, "avr" into "aur", then add the endings for each person: je aur-ais tu aur-as il/elle aur-a nous aur-ons, etc...... |

How do you write in present I have this history hw and its
about the assassination of
franz ferdinand. We are meant
to be writing from halfway
through WW1 (so the
assasination happened about a
year ago). But we are also
meant to be writing it in
present tense. How? Is my
teacher a nutter who doesn't
know what past, present +
future tense actually means?
|

No, your teacher is not a nutter. he is trying to TEACH you about he use of past, present and future tense. Read a newspaper, or listen to a news broadcast or a documentary for examples. I don't agree with this technique, but it is a very prevalent, commonly accepted technique in journalism. |
