Poetry...?
When you write poetry,
do you tend to write more
about fictional things
or real things you've seen or
experienced?

Whats really interesting is that I was discussing this with a friend and thinking about it quite a bit. I believe that the majority of people write about their immediate surroundings or about experiences. I have been trying to steer away form that. Sometimes, embellishing certain details or changing some memories are the best way to get your message across. |

Every time I read war poetry I Hey. Every time I read war
poetry, especially war poetry
involving soldier's dying and
touching war poetry, I begin
to get very sad and mournful.
I then start to cry.
But, I have a few family
members that have served in
the military before, but none
that were actually K.I.A. or
killed or anything. And,
they've retired, so their not
on active duty.
Why is this? Why do I cry and
grow sad every time I read any
kind of war poetry?

Maybe you sympathize for people that have lost there loved ones in war because you respect it more for having family that has served. That would be my guess. |

What are some Legitimate I wrote a poem about the death
of my young child. Everyone
keeps telling me to enter it
into poetry contest. I
recently submitted it to a
book and am awaiting a reply.
This is a poem that really
means a lot to me and I do not
want to get scammed or
anything. Can you please just
give me name of websites or
poetry books to submit my poem
to. All information is greatly
appreciated. Thank you!

You might want to consider submitting to magazines rather than to books. The book "Poet's Market" (your local library might have a copy) is full of information about journals that publish poetry. http://www.poetsmarket.com/ You can also find out about online poetry magazines at this site: http://www.newpages.com/NPGuid es/litmags_online.htm Contests are probably not a good bet for you. Most of the legitimate ones charge entry fees and select only a small number of winners (often only one), whereas magazines, both print and online, choose quite a number of poems from those they receive in each submission period. |
