Questions/Answers
Phoenix???
We're thinking about moving to Phoenix. What's the lifestyle like in Phoenix? What are some big companies to work for in Phoenix? What's the city like?
Hope you like ridiculous heat. In the summer, it's always >100 degrees, even at night. As for industry, I know Intel has a big presence. PHX is the headquarters for US Air. Primarily the economy is driven by real estate and retail. It is also the most sprawling city area I have ever been seen. The actual city of Phoenix is only a small part of what is really a giant mega-city. You have to drive everywhere, the traffic is bad pretty much all the time, and the drivers are hyper aggressive. That being said, it's not bad at this time of the year; the weather is nice now, and the dry climate somewhat compensates for the heat. If you like big cities, driving, etc. then you might like it.
How is Phoenix compared toother cities and what is sogreat about it?
What is unique about Phoenix that you can't find elsewhere? If none, what are some things that are unique about Phoenix. How is Phoenix different from the other cities? Would you say it is better that many other cities as a place to live and work?
I'd go with the rest of the answers. It's really not great. Houses are very expensive, it's too hot. It never cools down as it is a concrete jungle. Traffic is bad. Arizona in all grew, and is still growing at such a tremendous rate that the developers can't keep up. So there is absolutely no character left in southern AZ. From Phoenix south, there's nothing special. Tucson is a wee bit better, but with our growth, the character is diminishing in lieu of housing developments. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to visit. For maybe a week to get out of the cold, but no one could pay me enough to move here again. We're moving out of state because the schools are awful, the crime is way high (in Tucson, but more so in Phoenix), it is too hot, there is no character, water is quickly running out, and you can't touch a decent home for under $350,000 (in Tucson, more in Phoenix).
What are good restaurants inPhoenix to go to lunch andsupper?
This is mainly for research purposes for my new novel. I've been in Phoenix in 1/05. No fast food restaurants. But good restaurants to serve great food in the Phoenix Metro area inc. Sedona, that might include lobster. Excellent opinions from tourists and Arizona residents will be great.
I know plenty some really good ones!! Veneto Trattoria Italiana, an italian restaurant on the corner of Scottsdale Rd and McDonald Dr. Nice lunch and atmosphere, a lot of the servers have Spanish/Italian accent and are very nice too. Makes everything just perfect! Also La Madeleine is always good. A French street food style restaurant. Zinc Bistro by Kierland commons have excellent salad too^^
