Which of the followingstatements about the OttomanEmpire is NOT correct?
The Ottoman Empire was a multicultural empire, with Turks, Greeks, Romanians, Arabs, and others in powerful positions. As time went on, the Ottoman Empire became more technologically sophisticated compared to Western Europe. The center of the Ottoman Empire was in Turkey, and at its height the Empire ruled over Greece, Serbia, Egypt, and most of the Arab world. Other multi-ethnic empires, like the Austro-Hungarian empire, did not want Greeks and Serbs to revolt from the Ottomans.
I think it is the last one. I am 99% sure that all of the other ones are true.
What was the militarypower/advantage of the OttomanEmpire?
One empire that has eluded my understanding is the Ottoman Empire. I know they conquered Constantinople, but why? What military power did they bring to the table allowing them to conquer a huge empire from Europe to Africa? Did they any special advantage? Or was just brute force?
The innovations in using gun powered, & the Janissaries. When they conquered Constantinople, they used huge peaces of artillery. At that time, Byzantium wasn’t the huge empire it used to be, but Constantinople was well fortified. Sultan Mehmed II orchestrated the conquest of Constantinople with several innovations. In addition to the artillery, he managed to move 70 ships over the mountains to attack the city from 2 directions. The Janissaries were technically the slaves of the Sultans. They were taking at a young age & given some of the best education & training in the world of their time. They grow to become the Sultans elite infantry. & they were a formidable force.
