What physical hardware do I The company is coming next
week to install wireless
internet, but they don't
supply the necessary hardware
to network the two computers.
What do I need?

To share an internet connection in your house, you'll need the incoming connection (modem), and wireless router. These are often combined in to one unit. The machines need to connect to the router. They can connect using wireless (you would need wireless cards in the computers), or using ethernet wire, for which you'll need ethernet cards in the computers and the wires. |

Other than upgrading my Basically, I'm looking for
some software that might clean
out all the useless stuff
that's slowing my computer
down. Does anyone have any
ideas other than actually
upgrading my hardware? I've
already got antivirus and
spyware software.

What excatly are your system spec's? Im sure you do disk clean up, defragment, use a registry cleaner, virus scanner, and spyware scanner, Here is a little trick that people often ignore when they want to speed there computer up. *Note this will only temporarly speed your computer up untill you have more applications and real time applications installed. it is called Virtual Memory. It is RAM written on the hard drive. This is used for people who can not afford to get new hardware on there computer but want to temporarly give your computer a boost. Right Click-> My computer-> Properties->Advance-> And on the Virtual memoery box-> Settings-> You should notice some numbers: Minimum: Maximum: Registry File Size: This requires alot of trial and error because depending on your computer system spec you can raise it some. If you raise ti to much you will only make your computer slower. The minimum and Maxium are size that it will reserve on your computers disk space and use it as RAM untill it has time to get to RAM and process it. Think of it as a waiting line, untill it can get to RAM or the CPU. That is why olders computers were lounder because it was constantly wriritng and erasing from the hard drive. I would recomend you increase both of them by 200 and maybe keep your registry the same or up to 64. See if your computer runs faster. If it does no need to tweak it anymore otherwise you run the risk of slowing it down. * note you might need to restart your computer*I |

Can the motherboard be changed Recently my processor was
damaged, I found a replacement
on the internet for between
245 and 825 dollars. Instead
of changing out the processor
can I just change out the
whole motherboard and not have
any problems with the other
hardware. The processor was a
Intel Pentium 4 2.53Ghz and it
would be nice to upgrade, at
least to one a little more
common than this. Thank you.

The only hardware that might not be compatible is the RAM. If your old board uses regular DDR and your new board uses the dual-channel DDR, then you will have to buy new RAM. And assuming you have a normal IDE hard drive, make sure you get a board that supports IDE as opposed to SATA. Other than that, the rest of your expansion cards, your CD drive, and your power supply should work fine. But you will have to do a repair install on Windows after you change it out so it can register the new chipset and different devices. It actually works pretty well |
