Where can I seek affordablehealth coverage for generaland emergency care?
I'm currently jobless, and living abroad in Central America with my boyfriend. I need health insurance for emergencies and general health care. The plan I had was too expensive and I am desperate for a sense of security in case something happens. Also, I have been struggling with some more minor health issues and need to be able to see an American MD when I am home in the states. Please advise. Would also appreciate helpful weblinks as internet resources. Thanks.
I think www.ehealthinsurance.com can give you quotes on some individual plans. I think Assurant Health also sells policies, they have temporary coverage and stuff like that.
Where can I find a slidingscale health clinic forgeneral health care in NYC?
I am looking for a place where I can get a check-up in NYC without insurance. I am inbetween insurance policies and I might have an ear infection :( Can anyone help? Thanks a bunch!
This website can help you find a CHC near you: www.nachc.com. Here's some things you should know before you go. Depending on your income, (total household not just yours) your fee will vary. Bring the last four copies of your paycheck with you to save time verifying your income. There are many services offered by community health centers and as a patient you will have access to them. Take advantage of prescription programs like Medication Bridge and social work programs these health centers offer.
Is general health care aright?
I recently heard someone talking about the health care issue and they seemed to think that it was their right to be provided with free health care. Although that would be nice, I don't think I think it's a right, not to mention it wouldn't really be free.
You are correct on both points. However, in the States, we do not have a free market for health care and that is wrong. Too much government screwing around and too much illicit garbage via the handful of big insurers. In the pockets where those two elements are held at bay, health care is quite affordable and accessible. Check out LASIK, plastic surgery, the walk-in clinics which meet most peoples' needs (sprains, upper respiratory infections, vaccinations, etc.) where you get in and out in a reasonable amount of time for under $100, etc. We SHOULD clean up the mess we have because it's unfair and the most vulnerable are having their health ruined, being bankrupted, or even dying from what is just flat out abuse by those who get the lion's share of the profits in the field without even treating patients (large insurers and predatory lenders).
