(Copy and Paste the above listing to help in answering this challenging question.) <<<<<<.....>>>>>> Especially with the advent of the machine age this question is more pressing. Is it ok to torture and/or kill other humans or animals? Is it ok to pollute the earth? Please explain for the benefit of all peoples and nations. This has been an issue throughout the history of mankind. What is responsible human behavior? MOTHER EARTH: Understanding the earth is just like our mother. Addressing all environmental concerns worldwide. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ motherearth I asked this question after contemplating man's irresponsible behavior at time throughout history. Are we as humans ready to act more responsibly?
We need to treat them all as part and parcel of the Supreme Lord. Animals are no different than humans accept for their body and intelligence differs. The earth is the mother of mankind and the servant of God. We should respect her and not exploit her energies. All vegetation should be offered to God when prepared. What every we do we should take much consideration as to how to treat each living entity. If i accidentally squish a bug i should immediately chant Gods names to the soul of that bug and it will benefit (Such as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, Rama, Etc.) We should treat all nations as equals (Friends) and as Gods children. We should never kill unnecessarily. Only to protect oneself or others and by the law. Never exploiting anyone. Then we can be happy. World Peace.

Humans shape their environment in ways that other organisms cannot. Are humans subject to the same pressures of natural selection as other organisms? Why or why not?
Absolutely. Humans do not live in an isolated environment, and are thus subject to evolutionary pressures as are all creatures that inhabit the earth. Examples of some evolutionary pressures: Temperature extremes, such as in arctic environments, climate extremes, such as in subsaharan Africa, and so on. These types of environmental pressures can result in many challenges for humans. For example, starvation in Africa from crop failure, and new and emerging diseases from the tropics (e.g., Aids) put evolutionary pressures on humans. The one thing we have the ability to do is, as stated in your question, "shape our environment". We are extremely adept at responding to evolutionary pressures. That explains why we are so successful as a species. Nonetheless, we can and do face evolutionary pressure. In fact, you might think of global warming as the newest pressure we may face. Certainly, we may be the cause. But, regardless of the cause, global warming will change the climate and put pressure on humanity to adapt and cope, or die off.
What's a good book that talksabout the environment, globalwarming, and other earthissues?
I'm trying to write a fictional novel about humans destroying the environment but I don't know a lot about it... What is a good book that talks about today's environmental issues? Topics such as pollution, destruction of habitats, the atmosphere, and global warming are key to what I'm doing. Please, I'm not looking for science textbooks. I just need to know basic things about the environment and a short book would do fine. Thanks.
Elizabeth Kolbert is my greatest influence on global warming and the environment. Her article is long but very informative. http://www.wesjones.com/climat e1.htm This was an artical what was put in New Yorker magazine. A short but good article you can also read: http://www.livescience.com/env ironment/050630_oceans_acid.ht ml http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog -dMWGRys6aa_XpBRW8maZPnay52Qj_ 6U-?cq=1&p=12 I have written a paper on this little over a year ago which is a mere summary of all of the info available in the sources I provide.
