How do you get rid of My daughter has an odontogenic
keratocyst and is having
surgery. We don't want to do
jaw reconstruction. Anyone out

The only way to 'get rid' of OKC's is via enucleation, and removing a clear layer of normal tissue around it just to be sure that recurrence does not occur, which is high in the case of OKC's due to their thin epithelium that is easily ruptured. I would believe that the oral surgeon would discuss any need of further surgery for your daughter's rehabilitation, provided that the OKC is not large then things should be fine. Has the medical professional discussed any of this with you? OKC's usually develop along the angle of the mandilble, that is where the mandible bends and can be quite large and long. So it is definitely something that you need to enquire about. Best wishes. |
