Nursing School?
I am a high school student
planning to go to college for
nursing. Do you know if I am
academically competitive
enough for nursing school in a
state university?
My GPA is about 3.8
My QPA is about 16.04 (within
top 15 % of my class).

If you are good in math and the sciences, you should have no problems with nursing school. Take as many biology, chemistry, physical sciences that you can. |

Can you go from nursing school I am in nursing school now and
given that I've been in school
for assorted specialties for
nearly 10 years now I'm
considering going on to become
a doc. What's the best route
to take? I just started
nursing school but have worked
in the medical field (EMS) for
several years now.

You get a little edge for being a nurse and having experience in the hospital, but not much. You will be competing against all the premed college seniors in the country and you have to take the premed science and math courses which are all more advanced than what is taught for nursing. Nursing basic sciences are pretty watered down compared to pre med courses. Having taken the nursing courses you will do better for the first couple weeks of the term, but then it will all be new stuff. |

What is the best nursing I have decided that I want to
be a registered nurse someday
and I was wondering what the
best nursing school in the
country is. Or what state has
the best nursing schools? I am
looking for a campus where I
could live. I live in
Minnesota also if that helps.

I don't know if it's the best, but the University of Washington is outstanding. You could go there for a BSN or go to grad school and receive an ARNP; then you can diagnose and treat patients while working with a physician in private practice. UW also has an excellent medical school and an undergraduate Physician Assistant program if you feel like exploring any of those options. Thank you for looking into nursing. The local hospital in my town (2 hours from UW- that's why I'm trying to steal you) has almost 30 openings for RN's at the moment. We need them desperately, I'm sure the rest of the country is the same way. Good luck! |
