Is this essay comparing the Between the time of the
nomadic society to the
agricultural revolution,
society made a significant
technological transition. The
lives of the two societies
revolved around their need for
food. The weather conditions
affected their ability to get
food, and often the weather
was hot and desiccated. When
the nomadic inhabitants
discovered the agricultural
way of life, they knew they
could have more offspring,
because they were confident
there would be enough food to
feed their families. Although
this was not a smooth
transition from the nomadic
.way of life to an
agricultural existence,
history would prove the scale
of differences is closer than
they know. Additionally, that
small difference is what they
need to help each other to
survive.
To be an agricultural member
means you live in one place
and you uphold yourself by
growing your own food and for
meat growing your own
livestock. The nomads traveled
with their food and had no
stable residence in one place
for thousands of years. Where
they hunted and gathered
depended on the nature of
weather in specific areas.
Some animals or plants only
like warmer or colder weather
so they had to adjust where
they went according to that.
Both societies felt a strong
abhor for each other, but had
a need for each other

My first thought is that this essay uses vocabulary not normally used in a 7th grade essay. Many words would not be used by people much older, yet there are no sources cited. I am basing my impression on having taught 6th-8th grade history for over 30 years. You may want to reconsider some of the words used especially if they are not familar ones to you. On the other hand, this may be your own writing style and your teacher would recognize this and applaud you for your effort. |

What were the most critical What were the most critical
shifts that occurred to allow
sedentary civilizations to
dominate nomadic peoples after
the 1400s?

I think sedentary civilizations were dominant far before that time in many areas and I also don't know *exactly* what you mean by "critical shifts", but here goes: 1.) Agriculture Farming was the catalyst that transformed hunter gatherers into civilized societies. 2.) Population Density Farming allowed greater populations to live within a smaller geographic area. For example, hunter gathers in a natural nomadic environment would need say 1 square mile per person to survive, but a farming society could feed 10 people per square mile to survive. 3.) Specialists Farming allowed food surpluses, which meant that some people did not have to farm and could be fed off of the surplus food. Those people therefore could occupy their time in the study of a specific trade such as tool making, book keeping, astronomy, religion, etc. It was from this point that human technology began to advance at a much greater pace. 4.) Urban Centers Densely populated urban centers occupied primarily by specialists such as priests, merchants, accountants and especially warriors were supported by farmers from the nearby countryside. These urban centers were the first cities, which as time went by would by their sheer population size alone lead to very complex administrations, which were of course were the first governments. These many different governments would clash with each other sometimes in violent wars that increased in scale over time. SUMMARY: Essentially the advancement of specialists and cities created huge populations with advanced technology that allowed them to occupy every fertile piece of land on the planet. Only the most remote and/or desolate places remain occupied by hunter gatherers. |
