...The Viceroyalty of New Spain (), was the first of four viceroyalties created to govern Spain's lands in the North and Central America. It was ruled by a viceroy from Mexico City who governed many territories on behalf of the King of Spain. The Viceroyalty of New Spain lasted from 1535 to 1821, and was one of two early viceroyalties established in the 16th century, the other being the Viceroyalty of Peru. In the 18th century the Viceroyalty of Nueva Granada, and the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata were also created. The territories it ruled included present-day California, Southwestern United States, Central America (except Panama), and the Caribbean. Later, jurisdiction over parts of Asia Pacific was held as well.http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/412085/Viceroyalty-of-New-Spain Read full entry

Status Given to a new born Hi All,
I would like to know what is
the status given to a new born
baby to foreigner parents on a
visitor's visa to Spain. Also
what would be the parent's
status after the baby is born.
Will they be eligible to apply
for citizenship for themselves
? Can they settle in the same
country which is Spain ?
Are there any other European
countries that offer
citizenship to new born babies
?
Thank You all for your help.

UK does not confer english citizenship on babies born in UK where both parents are visitor or temporary workers. the exception is where at least ONE of the parents is a legal british resident or a citizen. Other wise the child gets the mothers citizenship. I think most EU countries are a lot more selective over who gets citizenship these days. This does tend to discourage anchor babies. Here are the spanish requirements. http://www.spain-visas.com/Spa nish-Citizenship-and-Spanish-N ationality-pag7.htm I would like to know what is the status given to a new born baby to foreigner parents on a visitor's visa to Spain. According to the above website - the child apparently does receive Spanish citizenship. Also what would be the parent's status after the baby is born. Same as before - there is no change. They are still citizens of their own country. Will they be eligible to apply for citizenship for themselves ? Not immediately, no and certainly not just because their child was born there. They have created an anchor baby in Spain. In USA - anchor babies are despised. Can they settle in the same country which is Spain ? The parents must apply to emigrate same as everyone else. The child does NOT confer any special status on the parents. |

Hi. I´m an American in Spain. I just checked on my NIE and it is at the top right-hand side under Regimen Comunitario. If you need anything else my wife is a lawyer and she handles these sort of paperwork all the time. |
