Natural gas ?
what is the average cost of natural gas? Why they consider natural gas as an efficient gas?
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/i nfo/ngw/ngupdate.asp 16-18 dollars per million BTU. Natural gas isn't necessarily any more energy efficient than anything else, but it burns very cleanly. There is very little other than methane in natural gas, and methane combusts completely very readily. All you get is water and CO2...now CO2 is its own ball of wax, but you aren't getting smog components from it, like you do with most liquid and solid fossil fuels. It can be cost-effective, so in terms of dollars it is quite efficient, as it's usually pretty cheap.
Are there natural gas rangeswith automatic shut-offsystem?
I have a natural gas range with electric spark ignition (no pilot). If the flame is put out because of air flow or any other reason, the gas flow is not shut off automatically. In many countries, gas ranges come with a very simple device (i.e., a thermocouple) that shuts off the gas flow in such situations. What mechanism is designed in Canadian appliances to prevent the danger of gas emission?
i do not believe so.......in the u.s. there is a simple fitting shut off device that attaches to the gas range flex connector that simply shuts down the flow if the connector is broken etc....this happens when a range is pulled out and the connector is broken - i strongly think this will work for if a large amount of gas is blowing, i.e. (burner) it will shut itself down - might want to look into this..
Could a natural gas poweredelectric generator be used togenerate electricity for thehome cheaper?
If natural gas is cheap enough compared to the cost of electricity, it might be much cheaper to generate your home electricity requirements with a natural gas motor/electric generator. I'm sure the gas companies would LOVE it if everyone did this! And, if everyone stopped buying electricity because this worked, the electric companies would have to lower their prices to compete!
I recently made a few rough calculations and figured it would be cheaper but the payback would be lengthy due to the investment. Natural gas generators are readily available but are going to cost $4-5k to be big enough for the whole house, even then you have to consider where you live and ac demand since this uses alot of power, although natural gas powered ac is available. Even at my local rates of 4:1 gas versus electric, it was going to be a long payback. Gas prices have risen since the "dash for gas" by generation companies eager for a quick buck on de-nationalization.
