"Phonology" (as any -logy) is the field of science that deals with the sound system of a language, the way sounds are made(a), and their meanings(b) within our speech or speech parts (words and how the changes of sounds may influence their meaning. Examples to follow: (a) producing and hearing human air vibrations for communication that are made by different ways of using parts of the human throat, tongue, soft palate, teeth, mouth and lips. (b) What a world of difference lies between "kid" and "kit"! Just a few minutes ago I read "Wats" - you may guess, what the writer meant. You will see how important it is to know the correct relationship between phonology and morphology if you go on reading: "Morphology" is a branch of the science of languages (linguistics) which studies the so-called "morphemes",grammatical elementary units of word such as "anti-" for "against" or -able as a small language unit to form some adjectives. And basic meanings are expressed in certain ways of writing, such as "What is" - but if you don't know this relationship you cannot know how it is written. (The same with "kid" and "kit", "bag" and "back" and so many other words. To explain the way of producing the sound and writing the word -that is why primary school teachers have their job.)
