...There is no rigorous definition of the term, but the following properties are usually considered characteristic of metalloids:
- metalloids often form amphoteric oxides.
- metalloids often behave as semiconductors (B, Si, Ge). Read full entry

1 luster- metals have luster also known as the shinyness of the element 2 malleable- metals are malleable or the ability to be flatened without shatering (to test hit with a nail and hammer and if there a dent it metal if it shaters it not) 3 conductivity- metals conduct electricity and non metals dont, and a metaloid can do eather 4 heat- metals conduct heat beter so if it conducts heat its a metal (to test put hlaf of element into ice cold or hot water and if u can feal the heat or coldness when holding it outside the water it a metal if not its a nonmetal or metalloid can do both) a metaloid could have some of each proporties so its best to do all tests and if it has properties of nonmetals and metals its a metaloid |

How can I bring a nonmetal and Our teacher is making us do a
chemistry project and we have
to find a few things that
would fit in a shoebox. My
list includes nonmetal and
metalloid... How can I bring
these?
Please and thank you

Are you saying the teacher wants you to bring something thats made of a nonmetal and metalloid into a shoe box? If so, for your nonmetal you can bring a lump of charcoal (which is made of carbon, a which fits in a shoebox.) and for your metalloid you can find a reel of lead free solder that contains antimony (make sure it says on the reel that it has antimony in it) you can find that at a hardware store or Radioshack. Hope I helped. |
