What is this bright star I saw Last May 14, at around 8:00pm,
I saw a bright star, on the
southwest. It was as big as a
cellsite's red light a
kilometer away from our house.
It was the brightest star, and
I am sure it was a star
because it twinkles. I am in
Iloilo Philippines.

Sirius is your best candidate since it would be an early setter in that area by now. To prove it's Sirius, hunt for two other bright stars that form an equilateral triangle with your supposed star. Sirius should be blue, the other two should be yellowish while the other one is red-orange. Do this around an earlier time so you can catch Betelgeuse or that red-orange star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W inter_triangle http://www.astro.illinois.edu/ ~jkaler/sow/wintri-t.html http://www.astro.illinois.edu/ ~jkaler/sow/dogs.html http://www.astro.illinois.edu/ ~jkaler/sow/sirius.html Clear skies! |

A sleepover is the best thing to do, and early can't hurt (several years ago I planned my party late and ended up never having it). The first thing would probably to start in the afternoon, maybe straight from school on a friday, or around 4 or 5 on a Saturday. Then have an activity, like go out to a movie (if there are any good ones coming out around then), or go ice skating or do some sort of arts thing, like a Made by You (if they have them near where you live). Salons are okay, but I get a sort of barbie-seque vibe, which brings me back to third grade, and is not mature. And trying too hard to be mature is even worse than being immature. Then when the activity is over, maybe around 6 or 7, go back to your house and have food, maybe pizza or pasta or chinese food, or something more original like sushi or indian food. After dinner, have several movies ready (maybe a pirates of the caribbean movie or one with Orlando Bloom, like Elizabethtown or Lord of the Rings), or make an expedition to Blockbusters. Then you can watch movies, or go on the computer and talk to people online, or gossip about other people. And have good snacks, like chips and popcorn and candy and soda. And maybe make your own sundaes for dessert. Themes can either go very well or very bad, so its safest to not have one (although it could be fun to have a 20's or 50's or 80's themed one and have everyone dress up). Just a sleepover with friends and food and movies and internet will give you a good time. Although, most likely there will be some sort of a small 'snitch', so be prepared to soothe people's feelings. There are alot of other things, but I think I've written enough for now. I hope it goes very well. Good Luck. |

is it true that philippines is it true that philippines
will have a 6.8 magnitude of
earthquake tonight may 14,2008
|
|

It is a hoax and earthquake warnings are listed as percent probabilities, with estimated magnitude ranges, and usually over a much longer period of time. Nobody can exactly forecast an earthquake. |
