History
Prehistoric and Roman times
The plateau of Campine was built up during the ice age with deposits of sand and other material that the Meuse river had eroded in the upstream Ardennes region. The higher elevation and the proximity of fertile river clay made this location an attractive one for the prehistoric tribes who established themselves here in the 2nd millennium BC and for the Celtic peoples who moved in the area in the 1st millennium BC. Anyone been to Maasmechelen We'll be driving from Cologne
to Brussels and Paris and I
saw that there's some kind of
outlet mall inbetween called
Maasmechelen Village. Are
European outlet malls as
good/cheap as American ones?
Any other ideas? Looking for
inexpensive souvenirs. Thanks
for your help!

No I wouldn't do it... If its souvenirs you're after check every city center you can get to. Outlets are mainly for clothing and easily called "outlet" but not much cheaper than many other low budget stores in city centers. Just walk around and compare. Maasmechelen is not word the detour and especially not if you're after souvenirs. |

Shops in Maasmechelen ?
Hello everybody.
I heard that Maasmechelen is a
paradise for shopping. But
except the very famous
brands,are there shops like :
Zara, Mango, Pimkie, Jenyfer,
Esprit , JBC, Promod, Xanka..
too?
Is it true that shopping in
Maasmechelen is really a good

Thanksfor your suggestions!

Hi, Maasmechelen is indeed something like Shopping Heaven, you have 3 shopping centres that you should visit: -Maasmechelen Village, you find the brands on www.valueretail.com. They often change but last time I went they had Hugo Boss, Versace, Mer du Nord, Calvin Klein, several sport shops (i think Puma&Nike),... -just a few km away is M2, here they have the more general brands like H&M, JBC, Mango, ... -also just a few kms away is Fashion Point : very expensive and exclusive, it's not an outlet but if you come in january they will have sales Best is to come for 2 days, you can stay in Maaseik or Maastricht, in Maaseik there is currently an exhibition of the Chinese Xian army |
