...A location may be described as either absolute location, meaning the exact location of an object, or relative location, meaning the location of one object relative to another and another or in a general area. An example of location is where a place is, for example a bowling alley or a restaurant, and the "relative location" is the approximate location of a place or area. Read full entry

Geography refers to the landforms, vegetation, climate,e tc.. of an area and it is a much broader term compared to location which just refers to the area itself. For example, the geography of china is in the semi-dry and semi-wet East Asia where there is snow..compared to the location of china is in East Asia. |

How is weather affected by |

There are a number of factors, some of which are not so obvious. I will list a few. The most apparent affect on weather by location is that of latitudinal variations in the amount of sunlight that reaches the earth. Because of the tilt of the earth's axis in relation to its orbit around the sun, we have seasonal weather patterns on most of the planet, and the Polar Regions receive so little solar energy that they can maintain frozen conditions such as permafrost and glaciers. The second major effect on weather that is related to latitude is the Hadley Cell. Hadley cells circulate air upward near the equator and return it to the surface near 30 degrees north and south. Similar circulation patterns exist at higher latitudes known as Ferrel Cells and Polar Cells. You can see a diagram here: http://www.newmediastudio.org/ datadiscov... Various ocean currents have a large effect on the climate of many regions. The Gulf Stream in the Atlantic carries warm water northward, affecting the climate of eastern North America and Western Europe. Seasonal changes in Pacific Ocean circulation produce El Nino and La Nina events that affect both Asia, South America, and Western North America weather patterns. Hurricane patterns from the Atlantic that move westward towards the Gulf of Mexico and North America have major affects on the weather of that region. Likewise, typhoons forming in the western Pacific affect that region. There are ongoing studies to investigate how the continued uplift of the Himalayas may be changing patterns of global weather by affecting the jet stream. http://ceaspub.eas.asu.edu/Sin ghal/Research/papers/globalwar ming/GlobalWarming.htm |
