Questions/Answers
Does mere laying hands onpeople give the Holy Ghost?Does a church have thatauthority?
Acts 8: 17-Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
That authority has to come from those "called of God" with proper authority. That authority comes from God. When Jesus Christ lived upon the earth, he called and ordained his twelve apostles to administer in the ordinances of his gospel. When those 12 apostles died, that authority was lost. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints received its authority directly from the resurrected Peter, James and John when they visited Joseph SMith in a heavenly visitation from these apostles. Therefore, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints claims its authority directly from Jesus Christ through Peter, James and John.
Can anyone explain theintercessory laying on ofhands
I need answers from believing Christians. Last night, I went to a pentecostal new church in the neighborhood. They were friendly, welcoming and the music was wonderful and genuinely full of praise. There was a sermon and then prayer. That's when things got weird. There was very few of us there. The pastor had all of us go to the front in a semicircle. He said he had the gift of profecy and had a message for each of us. One at a time, he laid his hands on the foreheads and hands of each of us and gave his message from God to us. His message to me was very generalized and any woman could have fit the message. None of the questions or concerns I've lately even remotely fit the message. Then, the pastor asked for prayer requests and each person had a few things each. Twice, the pastor asked everyone to lay hands on the requester and pray for the persons in question in intercession for them. One of the times- a lady even cast out a demon by proxy out of another member who was acting in her friends place! The demon was in her friend who was not there and the she acted as though she was this friend while the demon was exorcized. I was in shock and disbelief. I have never seen or heard of this. I believe strongly in intercessory prayer and the laying on of hands. But- I have always heard for the laying on of hands- the person in need had to be present. Does anyone else do this? Is this biblically accurate?
I don't think this is biblically accurate. I think this is emotional and spiritual manipulation, and deeply unethical. I think it's absolutely right and proper to offer intercessory prayers for people who are absent, and to lay hands on people who are present. But this casting out of demons by proxy is totally unbiblical. If I were you I wouldn't go there again.
Does anyone suffer fromnumbing off the feet and handswhen laying down at night togo to sleep?
I have severe discomfort in my feet and in my hands every single night as I am laying down. My feet and my hands go numb and I have the need to move them constantly or to just get out of bed. Does anyone know what this might be? I have had nerve tests done and they find that everything is normal. Im so frusterated.
I had this problem in my hands when I was in college, it was simply the way I was holding them at night. I was clenching my fingers and curling my fingers into a ball. The doctor told me to try wearing bowling gloves to keep the fingers straight. I didn't actually have to do this. Just knowing about it kept me from curling up my hands and cured the problem. That doesn't answer the feet question unless you are doing something with your feet that could be restricting the blood flow.
