Is there a link between poormuscle tone and Preschoolspeech language delay?
I was wondering if there is any link between preschool speech language delay and low muscle tone?
Hi there, I work in a nursery and I am currently working with lots of children with additional support needs most of whom have poor muscle tone. They also have Speech and language issues. Try activities such as encouraging them to blow bubbles - this encourages the development of the muscles around the mouth. I hope this has helped you out. x
How can I tell if my 21 monthyear old has a language delay?
My second child 21 months old seems to communicate non-verbally, whine or cry. He says some words. The milestone by 2 years old is 200 words. We are not even close. I'm trying to decide whether to take him to a specialist. Any suggestions would help. Thank you.
i had 2 kids with speech delays. i would look into it. my oldest was 3 1/2 before she started talking, 4 1/2 before she was potty trained. then my middle was 2 1/2 almost 3 b4 he started talking in complete sentences. you would rather help now than wait till the future and him be behind. my oldest when she wanted something she would say "eehh eehh", wine, and cry. my oldest by the time she was 3 she had maybe a 100 word vocabulary. i would look into it if i were u. good luck
I suspect my nephew has alanguage delay - how do I tellmy sister-in-law?
I'm a special-education resource teacher and my 3-year-old nephew demonstrates a number of indicators for delayed language aquisition. My sister-in-law often refers to him as a late bloomer, but I feel pretty confident there's more to it than that. Working in education, I know that he'll be much more likely to receive the support he needs if he starts school (in September 2008) with a diagnosis. My problem is this: How do I tell my sister-in-law without offending her? I really like her and think she's a super mom, but she's really turning a blind eye to this.
Just tell her what you told us - that she is a terrific mom, but you are worried about his language delay. I would think she would appreciate the advice since it concerns her son. My son is 3 1/2 and he was just diagnoised with a speech problem. I kept asking my mother-in-law who is a special ed teacher what she thought of his language abilities and she kept telling me he was a late bloomer too. I felt like no one was helping me and it was like pulling teeth to get the help he needed. He'll be starting pre-school services with the school district and finally get the help he needs. Talk to her and just tell her that you are really concerned and that you are there to help.
