Interesting. Yes - because there are really no other options for the Government and at least it keeps the assets from being taken into the great black hole of the banking crisis. It is a sign of desperate things have become though, but it does give time for negotiations to take place and it is lawful (just). I doubt very much if the Uk would have tried this tactic with a bigger country than Iceland - can you imagine them freezing the assets of a German or French bank? Iceland are small enough to push about. |
