...John Jacob Astor (July 17, 1763 – March 29, 1848), born Johann Jakob or Johann Jacob Astor, was the first prominent member of the Astor family and the first multi-millionaire in the United States. He was the creator of the first trust in America, from which he made his fortune in fur trading, real estate, and opium. In 1816, John Jacob Astor of New York City joined the opium smuggling trade. Yes, that is factually acurrate. John Jacob Astor was aboard the Titanic. He shared cabins C-62 and C-64 with his wife and servants. He died in the sinking and his body was picked up by the McKay-Bennett on April 22nd and marked as body 124 and was later identified by his clothing and affects on the body. He was returned to NYC and buried in Trinity Cemetary. The movie is only partially factually accurate, but as to Mr. Astor being aboard, that is correct. |

If you meant what he had on him when the ship went down this is what I found. "EFFECTS - Gold watch; cuff links, gold with diamond; diamond ring with three stones; £225 in English notes; $2440 in notes; £5 in gold; 7s. in silver; 5 ten franc pieces; gold pencil; pocketbook." If you meant his net worth it was about $650 million or 37 billion in todays dollars. |
