Pick me Pick me Pick me!! I am a Muslim who knows well about my religion Friday is special to Muslims because its our hoy day, just they way christians have it on Sunday, and Jews on Saturday. However, the way we 'celebrate' this holy day is different from the way the Jews and Christians do. The only obligation on friday is to go to the friday prayers, while there are many other 'recommended' things to do. The Quran contains a very strong literature. the Arab poets back then knew that from the language style of the Quran, it could never have been written by a human. It also contains variety of knowledge from Islamic judiciary, rulings, christianity(but it is not the bible, it only explains christianity a lil bit), Judaism(again, not the Torah, but gives explanation), Paganism(again, not one of the Pagan's book, but tells you about the Pagans who worship idols etc), to science, Mathematics, Creation etc. The Quran, is the Muslims holy book, it is sometimes used as a reference by religious scholars. SOmetimes, prayers are extracted out of it, and sometimes, we just read it to gain hassanat(goodness).. Hope that helps!! |

The Islamic invasion of India did little to change the country on an intellectual and technological level, because most of the learning and academics that the Arabs and Persians learned, came from India. Furthermore India was not invaded by Muslims or Persians but I believe by one of the many Muslim kingdoms in one of the stans. I think it was Pakistan or Afghanistant, it was one of those. As to how it changed it, the main thing it changed was the social order; whereas before northern India was governed strictly by a caste system, as Islam spread throughout the north, many from among the lower and Dalit castes converted to Islam. Intellectually, Muslims did little to nothing as far as contribution because the region was already "smart." Economically now, there was significant change because it opened up Indian trade with other Muslim kingdoms. Religiously well its kinda obvious; a lot of northern India is Muslim now. Most of what we see in the middle east from the Islamic period, the golden age of Islam, is either Persian or Indian, regarding the architecture, the science, etc. The main contribution the Arabs made was Algebra; while Indian and Persian maths were advanced for their time, they were unorganized and chaotic, the Arabs took what was basically a smashed pinata of mathematical knowledge, and organized it in a manner that was clear. Once the Indian and Persian maths were organized, it led to the birth of Algebra. Algebra spread throughout the Islamic world, and when the Indian Muslims got a hold of it they went crazy; the moment Algebra set foot in India there was an algebra craze among scholars, it was all they ever talked about and put their efforts into, so fanatical were they that in time India saw the birth of Calculus. Calculus was not invented by Leibnitz; it was actually invented in India, when they improved upon the Algebra that the Arabs taught them. That is no small feat; the Indians of the earlier Muslim dynasties achieved the creation of Calculus without the benefit of slide rulers or graphing calculators, all they had was the Abaccus. In fact the word "Calculus" comes from the word "stone," reason being, to be able to do Calc, many Indian scholars were seen using the Abaccus and its counting stones. There is a reason many Indian people are good at math; the country has a centuries long tradition, and their teaching methods are among the best in the world. Everyone who goes to school there learns, its not like in the west where some people struggle and some do well. Of course, who GETS to learn, who GETS to go to school is a different story.... |

How legitimate is it to "Islam came after Christianity
- Christianity is HUNDREDS of
years older than Islam - and
is similar to Christianity in
many, many ways. Hence The
Koran is just a spurious
carbon-copy of The Bible, with
"Jesus Christ" scratched out
everywhere it appears and
"Mohammed" scribbled in.
Anyone who can denounce
Christianity and espouse Islam
with a straight face is
obviously unsound."
I have *many* friends who make
this very argument, and I'd
like to know how sound it is.
Thanks.

1. The day-to-day life of the Prophet was an open book for all to see. In fact a revelation came asking people to give the Prophet (pbuh) privacy in his own home. If the Prophet had been meeting people who told him what to say as a revelation from God, this would not have been hidden for very long. 2. The extremely prominent Quraish nobles who followed the Prophet and accepted Islam were wise and intelligent men who would have easily noticed anything suspicious about the way in which the Prophet brought the revelations to them - more so since the Prophetic mission lasted 23 years. 3. The enemies of the Prophet kept a close watch on him in order to find proof for their claim that he was a liar - they could not point out even a single instance when the Prophet may have had a secret meeting with particular Jews and Christians. The theory that Muhummad (pbuh) authored the Qur’an or copied from other sources can be disproved by the single historical fact that he was illiterate. Allah testifies Himself in the Qur’an In Surah Al-Ankabut chapter no.29 verse 48 "And thou was not (able) to recite a Book before this (Book came), nor art thou (able) to transcribe it with thy right hand: in that case, indeed, would the talkers of vanities have doubted." [Al-Qur’an 29:48] Allah (swt) knew that many would doubt the authenticity of the Qur’an and would ascribe it to Prophet Muhummad (pbuh). Therefore Allah in His Divine Wisdom chose the last and final Messenger to be an ‘Ummi’, i.e. unlettered, so that the talkers of vanity would not then have the slightest justification to doubt the Prophet. The accusation of his enemies that he had copied the Qur’an from other sources and rehashed it all in a beautiful language might have carried some weight, but even this flimsy pretence has been deprived to the unbeliever and the cynic. Allah reconfirms in the Qur’an in Surah Al A’raf chapter 7 verse 157: "Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (Scriptures) in the Law and the Gospel" The prophecy of coming of the unlettered Prophet (pbuh) is also mentioned in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 29 verse 12. "And the book is delivered to him that is not learned." [Isaiah 29:12] Thus, historically and logically it cannot be established that there was a human source for the Qur’an. |
