Trade associations and industry groups are the financial back-bone of the Republican Party. (In fairness, the Democratic Party also receives millions from these trade groups as well but not near as much as pro-big business conservatives.) They lobby intensely to not only counter any measure that may actually benefit the average worker and consumer but also to ensure that the federal government caters to their every need, in the form of tax-free incentives, "special economic zones," and strict limitations (or outright overhaul) of litigation against them. "Privatization of gain, socialization of loss." Conservatives are always opposed to organized labor fighting for its interests and those of the workers' it represents to ensure their economic well-being and occupational safety when on the job; They also cry foul whenever any government program is created to prevent the working American from falling on hard times, even when those problems are beyond their own control. On the other hand, when certain industries start to collapse, such as the real estate market, they have no qualms about using government money to bail them out of trouble that Big Business, itself, is mostly responsible for. "No trade group is trying to artificially drive up the price of a commodity (such as labor), and then whine about unemployment when they price themselves out of the market." Instead, these same groups artificially keep down the price of labor in relation to the rise of inflation while driving up the price of needed commodities (oil, crops, heavy metals, etc.) and then whine about loss in business when they price more consumers out of the market. |

Yeah yeah, I love the simple economics answer. BS. I figured it out just after katrina. Ever since then, when the wind blew the price went up. Excuses after excuses. It is simply that. Greed. |
