...Independent Catholic churches are Catholic congregations that are not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church or any other churches whose sacraments are recognized by the Roman Catholic Church (such as the Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox or Old Catholic). Virtually all groups in the Independent Catholic movement claim to have valid apostolic succession for their bishops. Bishops in Independent Catholic Churches are sometimes referred to as episcopi vagantes ("wandering bishops") because of their lack of affiliation with a larger communion of churches. Read full entry

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII) Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians. Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006): By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works. http://www.vatican.va/roman_cu ria/pontifical_councils/chrstu ni/documents/rc_pc_chrstuni_do c_31101999_cath-luth-joint-dec laration_en.html There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much. A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.usccb.org/catechism /text/index.shtml With love in Christ. |

If you read the Declaration of Faith between the Iglesia Filipina Independencia and the Roman Catholic Chrurch... both believe in the trinity doctrine, faith through good works, the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds , Sacraments Baptism and Holy Communion commonly called the Mass, original sin and The Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ. But they differ in the following: 1. The Phjilippine Independent Church absolutely rejected the spiritual authority of the Pope . According to their Statement of Faith, "From apostolic times there have been three Orders of Ministries in the Church of God; Bishops, Priests, Deacons. These Orders are to be reverently esteemed and continued in this Church." 2. They abolished the celibacy requirement from its clergy, allowing marriage among its priests. 3. They reformed the traditional Roman Catholic Latin Tridentine liturgy drastically after the model of the Anglican vernacular reform. |
